About International Engagement, Communications and Protocol

The Office of International Engagement, Communication and Protocol, a unit within International Programs and Studies, serves a trifold mission:

Engagement

  • To create the “face” of Illinois International to internal and external constituencies by working jointly and collaboratively with them, developing new programming, enhancing existing programming and identifying new constituency groups.
  • To provide a bridge between the university’s vast array of international resources and its outside constituencies, to include business, media, government, K-16 and various community groups.
  • To identify or help create programmatic synergies between and among international activities on campus.
  • To create new international programming both individually and in partnership with other international activities on campus.
  • To develop a communications function for Illinois International that establishes a multi-faceted strategic communications plan, serves as the publications office for IPS, and acts as a conduit to news media for special interest and emergency news dissemination, and as a viable piece of the University’s overall public affairs mission.

Communications

  • The goal of the IECP Communications division is to promote the University of Illinois' global reach and achievements in research, teaching, and public engagement to external constituencies; to act as an information resource for these constituencies; and to facilitate communications internally among all campus units engaged in internationally-focused activities.
  • To develop and maintain contacts within print and television media throughout central Illinois in order to promote the campus' message regarding international research, teaching, and resources.

Protocol

  • To serve as the protocol and cultural competence locus for all campus activities, providing workshops, resources and advice on all related matters.
  • To serve as the central point for logistical support of all high-level visitors to campus, both domestic and international.
  • To create new instructional and learning opportunities for the UI campus, to include faculty, staff and students.
To develop “on-demand”, “on-site” protocol and communications programming for external constituencies such as business, academic institutions, government, civic, and community groups.
